Why do you need to “winterize” your vehicle?
A battery load test is performed to ensure that your vehicle’s battery can withstand and hold up to a load, and ensure that your vehicle will have the power to fire up on those cold mornings when you really need it to!
The vehicle’s charging system should be checked to be sure that when a load is put on it by running your vehicle’s defroster, electric rear defroster, wipers, headlights and your heater all at once, your vehicle will be able to get you from A to B without a lay over of any kind!
The belts should be carefully inspected. If they’re worn & cracked, a replacement belt should be installed. Given my opinion, it’s better to do that now than on the side of the road! The hoses on the vehicle are checked for firmness, bulging, fit and leaks. The hoses on your vehicle are just like any other part. Normal wear and tear coupled with age can do some damage to them.
The antifreeze concentration and level is a very important check for every vehicle before the harsh weather of winter pokes it’s head out. If the antifreeze mixture isn’t strong enough to prevent the coolant from freezing, major engine damage can occur. Proper coolant level is also a major player when it comes down to normal engine operation as well as allowing your vehicles heater to heat up!
Your vehicle’s brake system is probably one of the most important systems on your vehicle. Proper operation of your brakes and ABS system (if equipped) are imperative on a slick or icy road.
Windshield wipers should be checked for proper operation as well as the windshield washer system. These are necessary to keep visibility as high as possible.
Tire pressure is important in every day driving conditions and plays a major role in braking efficiency and can even affect your vehicles gas mileage.
